Clinic Genolier - Oncology
Oncology is the field of medicine that treats cancer.
The primary objective of the concept of “taking care of your most important asset: your health” developed by Clinique de Genolier is to prevent tumours and to detect them at an early stage, in many cases enabling them to be removed or cured before the cancer becomes established.
The Clinic’s interdisciplinary approach to and comprehensive management of cancer patients enables most of the necessary care to be provided in one place. Clinique de Genolier can provide all types of medical care by offering the following services under one roof:
- medical oncology, comprising chemotherapy, hormone therapy and other active medical treatments to control cancer
- radiotherapy, a treatment involving exposure to X-rays which destroy cancerous cells
- surgery to remove tumours
- radiology, which enables all the necessary examinations to be carried out to arrive at an exact diagnosis.
Patients benefit from the presence of a team which is also able to provide psychological support and reconstructive surgery, both of which enhance recovery.
Clinique de Genolier is affiliated with the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, one of the world’s largest centres for cancer treatment. The medical imaging network set up by the Center enables its outstanding experts to study patient’s records in real time, thus making diagnosis more exact.
Radiotherapy is a therapeutic technique in which precisely defined parts of the body are exposed to tumour-destroying radiation. This effect is generated by a linear accelerator which directs diffuse radiation at the tumour during daily sessions each lasting a few minutes. The radiation is guided very precisely by sophisticated systems inside the equipment. The nuclear medicine specialist will select the most appropriate method for the individual in consultation with the oncologist, the radiation oncologist and other doctors treating the patient.
