MALE BALDNESS OR ANDROGENETIC ALOPECIA TREATMENT

As its name suggests, this condition is due to the male hormones, the androgens, and to hereditary factors. It frequently starts between the ages of 20 and 30 and becomes progressively more pronounced. It may be restricted to a receding hairline or a bald spot, or it may spread until only a «monk tonsure» remains (also known as Hippocratic baldness).

What techniques are used?

A receding hairline is treated by transplanting hairs to thinning or bald areas. These hairs are genetically resistant to baldness and last a lifetime. They are taken from the back of the head and transplanted to the bald area.

For larger bald areas, the Frechet extender® will be used. This is a technique for obtaining more skin by increasing the surface of the hair-bearing scalp; the bald area is subsequently removed and covered by the hairy scalp. The aesthetic result is perfected by using a Frechet flap, to produce an attractive rounded shape on top of the head and allow the hair to grow naturally towards the nape of the neck.

How long does it take for results to become visible?

They are immediate when using the the Frechet extender or the Frechet Flap technique.

With implants, the transplanted hair begins to grow 3 months after the operation.

How many procedures are necessary?

For frontal area baldness, 2 or 3 transplant sessions are necessary which represent grafting 6 to 9000 hairs.

For relatively small to moderate areas of crown baldness, 2 procedures and for larger areas of crown baldness, 3 procedures combining « scalp extension » and « Frechet Flap » which represent approximately 15000 hairs covering the eliminated bald area.
